From September 2024 onwards, if you have missed the registration date for the entrance test in September 2024, there is a Late Test in February 2025. Please contact your preferred school to register your interest. Parents will still need to check the Schools’ websites in January for the final testing details.
Please note that the Late Test is to give your child an opportunity to join the Waiting List for your chosen grammar school(s). Regrettably, they will not be able to be offered a grammar school place on National Allocation Day, due to the timescales involved.
Please read the full letter from the Gloucestershire County Council for Missed Test Registration and Late Test Information.
Registration must be completed by noon on Friday, 28th June 2024. If you do not register your daughter by this time and date, she will not be able to sit the Grammar School Entrance test in September 2024. No late applications will be accepted.
On the registration form, parents can include a request for Special Education Needs to be considered, i.e. extra time, rest breaks, enlarged papers, etc. For the request to be considered, parents must supply, for example, an EHCP or Educational Psychologist report which is less than two years old. Parents are also able to include any medical details regarding their child, such as diabetes, asthma, etc. Parents can select which schools they wish to share their child's score with and their preferred test centre. We advise sharing with all girls grammar schools.
If you have a query, please contact the Admissions Team, 01452 382249 option 5 or 7.
For September 2025 Entry the entrance test will be sat in September 2024. The seven Gloucestershire Grammar Schools will be using GL Assessment for this test. Please read the link above ‘Gloucestershire Grammar Schools’ Admissions Information’ which has all the relevant information.
The test assesses students’ verbal and non-verbal abilities, English skills and mathematics, and is provided by GL Assessment. All questions are multiple choice style questions.
In one paper, students will be tested on their verbal skills (including comprehension, vocabulary and verbal reasoning). The other test paper assesses non-verbal reasoning and mathematical knowledge, skills and understanding. Each test session will take around an hour.
At the beginning of each session there is time built in for the sharing of instructions and, for the non-verbal reasoning element, some worked examples. Students are allocated a total of 45 minutes to complete the tests themselves.
GL Assessment is the largest independent provider of educational assessments in the UK, also providing assessment materials to schools in over 100 countries worldwide. They have been developing selection assessments for over 40 years and provide tests to the majority of grammar schools in the country. GL Assessment works hard to develop its material such that all children are able to demonstrate their levels of attainment and academic potential without excessive preparation. Familiarisation Material - GL Assessment can be found on their website GL Assessment.
Since 11+ tests vary from one area to another, it's important to note that the free familiarisation materials are generic and may differ from your own test's exact specifications. These differences may include the length of papers, the types of questions covered, and/or the level of difficulty.
The entrance test will take place on the morning of Saturday, 14th September 2024. On or before Monday 9th September, details of the testing arrangements will be sent out from the school where your child is sitting the test. If you have not received any information, please contact the test school. For specific testing arrangements you should contact your Test School.
Parents/carers will be informed of their child’s result by email in mid-October. Results will be sent home before parents/carers have to make a decision on which schools to put on their Local Authority Common Application (Preference) Form. If parents/ carers have elected (on the Grammar School Registration Form) to share their child’s result with more than one school, a separate result email or letter will be sent from each school.
Managed by the Local Authority - Deadline 31st October 2024. The Common Application Form (CAF) is the form which must be completed to enable the Gloucestershire County Admissions Team to offer you a secondary school place for your child. This form can be completed online or by completion of a paper copy.
