UCAS,University & Careers

The UCAS and careers process starts at Ribston Hall with the visit to the UCAS Higher Education convention. Ribston Hall usually attends the University of the West of England, where students are able to visit stands with representatives from UK universities and attend short lectures on higher education and student finance.

In the Sixth Form, there is a comprehensive Post AS programme the students start straight after returning from their AS examinations. With Tutors and the Sixth Form Team, the students are introduced to the UCAS system, student finance, universities, apprenticeships, colleges, career paths and much more. Guest speakers from industry, universities and colleges are invited to speak with the students. The aim is to broaden their understanding of feasible future options. This year, guest speakers from a number of colleges and universities including Exeter, Birmingham and Bath along with a representative from the Armed Forces spoke with students about options. Additionally, prospective Medics had the opportunity to be interviewed by a member of the selection team for medicine at Bristol University . Aspiring Oxbridge students attended a question and answer session with a current Oxford undergraduate.

Overall, students are presented with the choices available to them and are encouraged to start considering their skills and attributes to start piecing together their personal statements. We aim for all students to have completed a first draft before the summer holidays. In order to support parents, there is a UCAS evening at the end of the summer term with a focus on the support Ribston provides and oversight of student finance options. Whatever career path Ribston students consider, our independent Careers Advisor can offer support in one-to-one meetings, or a member of staff will be able to advise.
The future holds many opportunities for all Ribston Students and we aim to provide the best support to help students achieve their aspirations.
